The Allegany High School project took place at the site of the former Western Maryland Health System’s Braddock Campus Hospital in Cumberland, MD. This $50 million project moved students from a 90-year-old building to a new, state-of-the-art facility with room to grow and enjoy impressive mountaintop views. Open interior spaces give the student-centric interior more natural daylight, all while maintaining a comprehensive level of security and energy efficiency. The high school is anticipated to earn a LEED Silver designation. Learning spaces and ever-changing technologies work hand-in-hand. Rooms are flexible and adaptable as teaching methods change. A 3751 SF auditorium with box office can host 502 guests. The building holds about 865 students, giving the school a chance to grow. Site work included extensively grading areas for parking, the football and track field, and other athletic fields. A large retaining wall creates stability for new practice field space for soccer and other sports.
