The visitor center next to the Horseshoe Curve is open April to October. The center has historical artifacts and memorabilia relating to the curve, as well as a raised-relief map of the Altoona-Johnstown area. One can obtain access to the curve through the gift shop and ride a 288-foot funicular, or take the 194-step stairway. The funicular is single-tracked, with the cars passing each other halfway up the slope. There is a former “watchman’s shanty” in the park.
