The Child Care Center at Hort Woods offers 15 classrooms, an outdoor play area, a library and a kitchen. This 21,500 square foot facility can serve as many as 170 children and allows them to participate in hybrid ventilation operations, play in steam beds, and use child-sized toilets supplied by harvested rainwater. The Child Care Center is the first PSU LEED Platinum building on campus and prides itself on using natural daylight instead of electrical light inside the facility to conserve energy. The outdoor playground is comprised of boulders, tree stumps and rings, and other natural elements for the children to play on and explore. This project was completed in September 2011 and the estimated value is $11 million.
