Elk Regional Health Center is a fully-accredited, nonprofit, 80-bed general acute care institution. The vertical expansion to create a new third floor incorporates two medical/surgical inpatient units, 48 primary private rooms, a maternity birthing unit with nursery, a new delivery operating room, and a renovated outpatient surgery public waiting space. Renovations were ongoing as the center was operating, meaning strict standards for air quality and noise were followed to provide comfortable patient care. The 45,864 square foot project was completed November 2012.
