This unique structure sits directly beside the College of Engineering on campus. The utilitarian usage of a 750,000 gallon water tank needed to coordinate with the design of the surrounding buildings and also be perched as the roof for a working amphitheater. Crews first demolished the site, prepared and staged the area and placed a 12-inch water line. Forty-two micropiles were placed along with concrete parallelogram supports for the tank’s legs. One row of seats doubles as a retaining wall, with two other blue stone walls creating more seating. Removable fencing on one side of the tank allows for event control, and a 100-foot plywood wall on top of a brick wall creates a safety walkway for work to be completed.
